The Truth
Short Story by Brittany

Jamie Lynn’s POV

My eyes are glued to the phone, just waiting for the one call that I was promised.

“Brit, my phone’s acting up I’m going to call my phone from the house.” Kevin says as I jump up.

“No.”

“What?”

“I said no... I’m expecting a phone call.”

“JL, he’ll only be a few minutes.”

“Yeah and my phone call will be any minute now.” I say pushing past her. I grab the cordless phone and go into my room.

“What in the hell is your problem.”

“I’m waiting for a very important phone call.”

“What are you waiting for one of your boyfriends to call you, and tell you what they thought of the show?”

“Your ex-boyfriend to be exact.” I say as she gets an irritated look. “You know Brit, the one you cheated on, the one that you couldn’t keep because you were too busy doing other things... or shall I say other people.”

“Jamie Lynn!” She screamed.

“What...did you not expect me to call you out? This is a good three years in the making..... I swear Britney deep down inside of me I’ll never forgive you for what you did.” I say as tears began strolling down my face. “You took my family from me..... all because you couldn’t keep your clothes on.” I say throwing a pillow across the room.

“Do not speak to me like that.”

“Or what you’re going to kick me out of the house and make this into a bedroom for one of Kevin’s illegitimate kids?”

“What has gotten into you?”

“You want to know what’s gotten into me.... the truth Britney the freakin’ truth. Every one else might feed you a load of b.s. about the things you do, but I’m done.”

“Why are you being so hateful?” Britney asks as she begins to cry.

“Save it, save your tears, I’m not buying it.”

“I just came up to see if...Britney are you ok?”

“Get out!” I scream. “This isn’t your house, I don’t give a damn if mama is out for a few hours, it gives you no right to come into others rooms uninvited.” I say slamming the door and locking it.

“And to believe that’s what you married.” I say laughing. “And all you have to show for it is  a few wasted millions, and two stepkids....wow you did good for yourself Brit, couldn’t be prouder.”

“I’m doing what makes me happy.” She hisses.

“Right.... being the laughing stock of the freakin country by getting married twice in one year. You were drunk for the first one, and you married a jobless loser the second, you really set the bar high when it comes to dating.” I said rolling my eyes. “That was yet another thing that left when J did.”

“How dare you.”

“How dare I what, huh. Say his name in this house? It’s my house, you tell me to get out and I will, you’ll be the one to explain to mama why I’m living with daddy.”

“Everyone else might cater to you, but I won’t I love Justin, whether he’s with Cameron, or whoever else he wants to be with because he is there for me. He loves me and would do anything for me, and you took that from me.”

“I didn’t take–.”

“Stop lying to me.... when you and Kevin started dating the phone calls stopped....I thought it was because he didn’t want anything to do with me....ends up the jobless, homeless, wonder of a husband of yours told him to stay away. And let me tell you some I’ll be damned if he ever tells me who I will and will not see.”

“Justin and I are still friends.”

“Ha, I’ll believe that when I believe that mama and daddy still love each other... if it wasn’t for you having to be at this competition or that competition maybe they’d still be married.”

“They were constantly fight, JL.”

“Over money, money to take Britney here and there... you truly are a home wrecker, first mama and daddy, you completely burned Justin, and Kevin and Shar, you are just on a role.”

“You don’t even know the half of it.”

“Try me.” I say as the phone rings. “Wait spare me I have an important phone call.”

“Hello?”

“Jamie?”

“Yup.”

“You kicked some major ass.”

“Awww thanks Justin... so you liked it.”

“Yes I did, I had friends over and I watched it while they were playing pool, I kept bragging about you, I was proud.” He says as I laugh.

“Aww that’s so sweet.”

“I am proud of you, JL, you’ve done well for yourself.”

“So when are we all going to get together again?”

“When are you coming back to L.A.?”

“I have to be out there in a few weeks for a photo shoot.”

“Well have to have a rematch in laser tag.”

“Oh you are so going down.”

“I don’t think so little one.” He says as I hear someone in the back ground.

“My mama wants to say hi, JL.”

“Hi Miss. Lynn.”

“Hi, baby....how are you and your sister doing.. I’m fine, you can ask her if you want.” I say handing Britney the phone.

After a few muttered words she hands the phone back to me.

“I’ll call you in a few days and we’ll make plans for when I go to L.A.” I say.

“Sounds good.”

‘Love you bunches J.”

“Love you too sweetheart, you take care, and take care of your sister for me.”

“Oh believe me if only I could.” I say giggling.

“Be nice.”

“Trust me J, you are the one that’s possible of that.” I say as we end the conversation.

I only look at Britney, and it’s a matter of time before she speaks.

“How’s he doing?”

“He’s great.” I shrugging my shoulders.

“Why is he calling you?”

“Maybe because he cares about me.”

“I’m sure.”

“You know everything is not always about you.... he called to tell me what he thought of the show, and that he was proud of me.”

I saw walking to the door.

“I’m going to go see if mama is back so I can arrange to stay with Justin when I go to L.A. for my photo shoot.”

“You’re not staying with me?”

“You have a husband, and step kids, I have no desire to stay with you, J’s house will be just fine, you can come and see me if you really want to see me.”

I walked out the door and went down stairs hoping mama would be home.

Part of me felt bad about the way I talked to Britney, but in the end, she caused this. She can’t put on the facade much longer, I hope that it ends sooner than later, but for now I’m comfortable with  knowing that I was the only one able to tell her........the truth.
