Something
Special

Justin
couldn’t help but laugh at Britney’s frazzled appearance as she walked

Britney
shot him a glare, daring him to say anything.
Justin muffled another laugh and walked to her while Britney kicked off
her shoes and pulled her sweatshirt off her body, revealing a white, simple
spaghetti-strapped top.
“What’s
wrong baby?” he asked, wrapping his arms around her body.
Britney’s frame seemed to melt into his, and she stayed this way for a
few minutes, enjoying the warmth, comfort, and smell of her boyfriend.
“Have they been working my girl too hard?”
Britney
buried her head into his chest and nodded her head as she mumbled an “mmhmm.”
Justin’s
hands reached down for hers, and he gently tugged her into the living room.
Once Justin was seated on the couch, Britney followed suit and rested
feet on his lap, wiggling her toes up at him.
Taking the not so subtle hint, Justin wrapped both hands around one foot
and massaged the tension in it, before moving to the next.
Britney’s
eyes fluttered shut, and a small groan was emitted from her mouth, to which
Justin let out a small chuckle. “Wanna
tell me ‘bout it baby?” he asked gently, not stopping the motion of his
fingers against her feet.
“Well,
first I had that television interview for Nickelodeon.
Then I had a meeting with Wayne Isham for the new video.
Ummm…oh gosh, Justin, this next part…I so wanted to scream.”
She rolled her eyes and sat up, so she could curl up to her boyfriend’s
body. “I get to a magazine photo
shoot, but the photographer that was supposed to do the shoot was sick, so they
had the intern do it, which is fine. But,
halfway through the shoot, the original photographer calls and reminds the dude
that the pictures are supposed to be black and white.
So, okay, I figure it can’t take too long to put in a new role of film.
I couldn’t be more wrong. The
black and white film was nowhere to be found.
To make a long story short, he finally found it and we finished the
shoot.”
“Uh
oh, there’s a ‘but’ coming on, I can sense it.”
“How’d
you know?” Her tone was monotone,
and she paused before continuing with her story.
“So after the shoot is over, Felicia looked at the schedule and saw
that I had another interview to do. But
after checking the time on the schedule and my watch…I hate being late.”
“How
late were you?”
“Thirty
minutes late, Justin. And let me
just tell you, the journalist wasn’t exactly happy.”
“Babe,
it’s not your fault. Don’t
worry about it.” Justin’s hand
rubbed her back and gave her a gentle squeeze, before pressing a kiss to her
temple.
“I
know it. It just upset me.”
Britney lifted his hands in hers and tangled the fingers together.
“How was your day?” she asked suddenly, eager to change the subject.
“Not
too shabby. I picked up your dress
from the cleaners today, too. I
thought you might want to wear that tomorrow night.
It’s simple, but you look great in it.”
“Tomorrow
night?” Britney questioned, trying hard to remember what they had planned the
following night that she would need a dress for.
“My
mom and Paul are coming into town, and they wanted us to go out to dinner with
them.”
Britney’s
face scrunched up in an unreadable expression, and Justin waited for her to
explain what she was thinking. “Justin,
I forgot.”
“We
just talked about this last night, Brit. What?
Do you have plans?”
“Some
of my dancers wanted to me to go to a club opening.”
“Well,
can’t you skip it? This is family
stuff. Mom’s been complaining
that she hasn’t seen you in ages, and this will give us some time together,
too. We’ve both been so busy
lately that we hardly see each other.” Britney
was silent for a minute while she watched Justin’s thumb rub in tiny circles
over her arm. “Please?”
“J…”
Justin didn’t like the words he knew were going to escape her lips, so
he gently pushed her body away from his and stood, leaving the room.
“Justin, wait,” Britney called after him.
He
stopped before his foot could touch the bottom stair.
“Just forget it Britney; go have fun with your friends.”
His tone was biting and void of emotion.
He stormed upstairs, and Britney was surprised to not hear the bedroom
door slam shut.
Ten
minutes later, Britney couldn’t stand the silence.
She slowly walked to her and Justin’s bedroom and pushed open the door.
After changing into some pajamas, she crawled into the bed.
Justin’s back was facing her, which was unusual, and she knew he was
still angry with her. Britney
wrapped her arm around his body and pressed a kiss on the skin of his neck.
Justin
flinched and removed her arm while scooting his body away from her touch.
“Goodnight Britney,” he said simply, before falling asleep.
The
next day crawled slowly by for Britney. When
she had woken up, Justin was already out of bed and out of the house.
But now, it was almost
Britney
drove quickly to the restaurant and pulled into the closest parking space.
Ignoring the stares as she walked it, her eyes darted around the room,
searching out her party.
Her
brown eyes lit up as she spotted them and she made her way through to the back.
Her small hands slid over a pair of blue eyes, blinding the vision of the
victim.
Justin
perked up immediately, as Britney leaned down and whispered into his ear.
“Would you dance with me?” Her
hands uncovered his eyes, and Justin’s body turned to hers.
“I’d
love to.” He gently took her hand
in his, and the couple made their way to the dance floor.
“What made you want to come?” Justin finally asked, as their bodies
swayed to the beautiful music in the background.
“I
wouldn’t have any fun at the opening without you.
And I love you and our time together.”
She pulled his head to hers and kissed his lips.
“But I feel kinda bad because I didn’t even say hi to your parents
yet, and they were sitting right there.”
“There’s
still time for that,” Justin reassured. “Besides,
I’m sure they understand. I’ve
been moping around all day. I think
they figured out that it was because you weren’t coming.
I’m sure they’ll thank you later.”
Britney laughed and laid her head against Justin’s shoulder.
“You’re
something, you know that?” she said, breathing in his scent.
“Oh yeah?” His blue eyes peered down into her brown ones as he spoke quietly, “Well, you’re something special.”
