Chapter 9

I awoke to find my surroundings were not as they have been the last few days. A golden drape surrounds me, blocking the view from outside the canopy. I squint my eyes, trying to decipher as to where I am.

"Ah, I see you have awoken." A female voice says to me. A pale hand reaches inside, pulling the drape aside. Her appearance revealed the same pale face, adorned with black almond eyes and white fanged teeth.

"Where am I?" I asked her, leaning up on my elbows.

"That is not a concern of yours. All that matters is that you're here." She smiled. "Come, we must introduce you to the mistress." She smiled, extending her hand for me to take. Reluctantly, I took it, not knowing of whom she was speaking.

We walked from the room containing the golden bed. The halls were lavisly decorated with golden sculptures and paintings of long ago explorers and diplomats. We came to a room with white draperies. A figure stood in the middle of the room, a cape surrounding them.

"Mistress, I have brought her to you." The woman bowed before her as I stood in the doorway. The figure turned to me, not revealing its face.

"Britney." The voice whispered raspidly. I shuddered as a bony, pale hand reached out. "Don't be frightened my child. You have come to your destiny." The voice said.

"My destiny? Who are you? Why am I here?" I asked, backing away.

The figure chuckled, the cape shaking slightly. " All will tell in due time. But for now, please, sit." The figure directed me towards a set of table and chairs. I followed the direction, taking a seat on one of the chairs. The woman walked over to another one of the walls, grabbing a pitcher and saucer.

"Now, I'm sure that horrible Persissa has told you some nasty things about the two of us." The figure said. I looked down.

"She may have mentioned some things about an evil vampire queen and her servant." I said bitterly. The night that I was taken was still fresh in my mind. The hand grabbed my wrist roughly, bringing me out of whateve reverie I was in.

"She is the evil one. She knows nothing of life. She's bitter and upset because I transformed her farmboy Clarence into a powerful king."

"I thought Clarence-"

"And her were lovers once. Oh, yes. After she broke his fragile little Greek heart, I went after him. He became my king." The voice replied. I squinted.

"But why am I here?" I asked, looking around.

"Do you love Justin?" The figure asked. I looked down, comtemplating the question.

"More than I've ever loved someone. But we cannot be. It's immpossible." I whispered, playing with my thumbs.

"Perhaps you can."

"Right." I snorted.

"If you want him, I can help you to get him." I looked up, my eyes wide.

"Seriously?" I asked, looking at the figure.

"At a certain price."

"Money is no object." I replied. The figure chuckled.

"Money is not what I'm searching for. What I want is.....your soul."
