What I'm Here For
Short Story by Amber

"Brit?" Jamie Lynn called out to her older sister from outside the bedroom door.

"Brit?" Jamie Lynn called out again.

"What do you want now Jamie Lynn?" Her older sister, Britney hissed.

"Mama says It's time for dinner." Jamie Lynn explained, still outside the room.

"Tell her I'm not hungry." Britney said getting off the bed, and opening the door for her sister to come in.

Once inside, her sister says " I'm not doing that Brit. You haven't eaten in three days and It's worrying me. Please come downstairs and eat with us." Jamie Lynn said with pleading eyes.

"No!" Britney screamed. "I'm not eating or doing anything until he calls me and says he's okay."

"Oh my gosh Brit, Justin is fine. There's nothing to worry about." Her sister said getting irritated.

"How would you know? You weren't there when his mother called and said he had been in an accident. No! You weren't, you were at your cheerleading competition! I needed you, Jamie Lynn! I needed you. " Britney said breaking down.

"Well I'm sorry Britney, ya know I'm fourteen years old. I have friends, school, heck Brit, I have a life. You cannot expect me to stick around here and feel sorry for you all the time. I have a life!" Jamie Lynn said breaking down as well.

"But I needed you!" Her sister yelled.

"And so did they!" Jamie Lynn yelled back, referring to her team mates on the cheerleading squad , then getting up and walking toward the door.

"Wait!" Britney yelled causing Jamie Lynn to stop dead in her tracks. " I'm sorry." Britney said in a quiet voice, walking to her sister and hugging her. " It's just that I really don't know what to do. I want to help Justin, but I don't know how, the record label wants me to tour overseas with my boyfriend in the hospital unconscious, and to top It all off my little sister is growing up and I don't like it." Britney said with a little laugh.

"Brit, I know I'm growing up, trust me." Jamie Lynn said looking down at her chest causing Britney to laugh harder and herself to laugh a little too. " But, I'm here when I can be." She said taking her sister's hand. "Justin's strong, he'll get through this, and with you by his side, I'm sure nothing is bound to get in way." Jamie Lynn stated with a smile.

"Thanks, I really needed that." Britney said returning the smile Jamie Lynn just gave her.

" C'mon, let's go get something to eat, I'm starving." Britney said again while rubbing her stomach.

"I bet you are." Jamie Lynn said leading the way downstairs into the kitchen.

"After we eat, I want to hear all about your cheerleading competition, k." Britney said putting her arm around her sister's back.

"Well I kinda had plans with Jessica and Caitlin." Jamie Lynn said, then realizing the sadness in her sister's eyes when she looked up. " But we can rearrange." She said again with a smile.

"Well thanks for penciling me in, am I gonna have to make an appointment every time I wanna hang with my little sister?" Britney said with a questioning look, then she laughed.

" No, you can hang with me anytime you want to." Jamie Lynn said laughing along with her.

"Well thanks kiddo. Oh yea, and If you might have to pencil me in, I just want to says thanks for being here now. It's keeping my mind off of a lot of things." Britney said once they reached the bottom step.

"That's what I'm here for." Jamie Lynn said continuing their journey to the kitchen.
