Diamonds: Are a
Girl's Best Friend
SS by Chris
“J man, come on. We’ve been in here for almost two hours looking at the same stuff. Don’t you think it is time to go somewhere else and look,” Trace said getting up and pacing the jewelry store once more.
“Trace, if you want to leave there is the door. I’m not done looking yet,” Justin said pointing to the door and then looking back at the jewelry in the case in front of him.
“What are you looking for anyway? You don’t have a girl to be buying this stuff for. So whom are you shopping for anyway?” Trace walking over to look at what Justin had in his hand.
“I’m shopping for somebody important to me and that is all you need to know,” Justin said as he handed the bracelet back to the jeweler and shaking his head no.
“Alright, well let me know when you have found something. I’m going over here and I’m gonna take a nap,” Trace walking over the couch.
Justin just shook his head and continued his search.
After looking for another hour, he finally found something that was perfect.
“Trace, what do you think about this one,” Justin said waking him from his nap.
“Huh, it’s nice J.” Trace said never looking up at him.
“Damn Trace, I could have just picked out the ugliest piece of jewelry in the world and given it to you and you would have never known the difference. Now would you get your lazy ass up and look at this,” Justin said.
Trace relented and got up and looked at the bracelet that Justin had on the counter.
“J, that is beautiful. Now do you mind telling me who it is for?”
“Nope, not yet,” Justin said looking at Trace then shaking his head yes to the clerk.
Hour later they were back at Justin’s apartment and still Justin hadn’t told Trace who the bracelet was for.
“J, what are you doing tonight? Some of the girls and I are going to this club on 52nd street.” Trace said after Justin walked in and pulled the box from Tiffany out and placed it on the table.
“I don’t think I’m gonna out tonight. I just feel like staying in and relaxing, but you go and have a great time,” Justin said from the dinning room.
“You planning on going out ever again. You haven’t been out since you split with Cameron. Come out with me tonight and get your mind off things. I guarantee that you’ll have a great time,” Trace said with a sly smile on his face.
“That is your solution to everything isn’t it?” Justin replied.
“What is wrong with that solution? I would think you would understand more than anybody would. What the hell is your problem anyway? You have been a royal pain in the ass ever since you got back from Orlando. What the hell happened in Orlando J?”
“You don’t want to know what happened in Orlando. So just drop it,” Justin said walking away from Trace who was still standing in the living room.
“No I’m not going to just drop it. I want to know what happened in Orlando Justin. I’m your best friend. I deserve to know what is making you jump down my throat because I’m asking you to come out with me,” Trace said following him into the kitchen.
“You sure you want to know,” Justin asked. “Fine, I’ll tell you, but don’t say I didn’t tell you that you didn’t want to know.”
“Just fucking tell me already!”
“I found Britney again. We are dating again. We aren’t telling anybody. You, Mama, Lynne, Mo, Mike and us are the only ones that know. So keep your mouth shut about it.”
Trace just stood there and stared at him.
“You’re fucking joking right.”
Justin shook his head no.
“Are you fucking stupid? You’re going back to her. What the fuck for? I mean I know that she was a great fuck and all, but come on. Look at everything else that you went through because of her. I can’t believe that you’re just going to go back to her after everything that happened.”
Trace was livid. His face was getting flushed from the anger that was running through him at the time.
“Well, it isn’t your decision to make. It’s mine and she is the only thing that I want right now and if you don’t like that then get the fuck out and stay out.”
Justin got up and opened the door.
“Don’t say that I didn’t warn you. When she breaks you again, I’m not coming to pick up the pieces again,” Trace said as he walked out the door. As soon as he was outside the doorway, Justin slammed the door shut.
A few days later, a gift arrived at Britney’s house in Kentwood.
“Britney, the mail is here,” Lynne yelled to her daughter.
She came bounding down the stairs and almost ran over Jamie Lynn in the process.
“What is she all excited about,” JL asked her mother when she entered the kitchen.
“The mail is here,” Lynne repeated for her youngest daughter.
“Oh,” JL said and the she went to find Brit.
When she found her, she was all curled up in a ball in front of a package in the living room crying.
“Britney, what’s wrong,” JL asked when she got close enough.
“Nothing at all JL. Nothing at all,” Brit said through the tears.
When JL got close enough to see what Britney was looking at it astounded her.
It was a diamond bracelet with her birthstone on it.
“It’s beautiful Brit. Who is it from?” JL asked.
“J.”
“What!” JL asked surprised to hear his name.
“It’s from Justin. We’re seeing each other again.” Britney said getting up and walking towards the kitchen.
As she walked into the kitchen, she found someone sitting with her mama, Justin.
“YOU!” she screamed and then ran into his arms.
“Hi baby,” he said as he picked her up and swung her around.
“I missed you while I was away,” he said when he put her back down.
Jamie Lynn came running in after she heard Britney scream.
“What is going o….oh” she stopped in mid sentence when she saw Justin holding on to Britney.
“Hi JL,” Justin said.
“Hi Justin. Nice to see you,” she said then she turned and walked away.
Lynne followed JL out of the room when she noticed the look in her eyes when she was talking to Justin. Lynne however wasn’t the only one to notice the look, so did Britney and Justin.
“Jamie Lynn are you okay sweetie,” Lynne asked.
“No, when did he get here. He wasn’t in the kitchen when I was talking to you just a little while ago,” JL said as she started to cry.
“Actually sweetie, he was. He hid, because he didn’t want you to tell Britney that he was here. Now I know that isn’t the reason that you’re upset, so why don’t you tell me the real reason,” Lynne said sitting down next to her.
“He hurt her so much mama and now she just lets him back in just like that,” she said as she snapped her fingers.
“She didn’t let him in just like that. It took a great deal of talking between them for them to work out their differences. You may not like that he is back, but that isn’t something that you get to decide. That is Britney’s decision and if she wants him to be in her life than he is in her life. You just have to live with it. Now you don’t have to like it, but you still have to live with it. So come on back out here and be with the family,” Lynne said getting up and starting towards the door.
“I’ll be right out mama, I just want to stop crying first,” JL said.
“Alright sweetie.”
Lynne left the room, but before the door closed, Justin walked in.
“Do you mind if I take a seat here,” he said standing next to JL.
“Sure, I guess that I don’t get to decide where you sit either.”
“Look, JL. I know that you don’t like me much right now, but I promise you that I’m not going to hurt your sister again.” JL started to interrupt but Justin continued, “I know that you don’t trust me not to hurt your sister again either, but it took a long time for me to convince myself and your sister that I wasn’t going to hurt her again too. We have been talking for almost a year now JL and it took a really long time for me to build that trust back in her, and now I’m willing to do that with you too. I missed not having my little sister around. I missed everything that you were doing and most importantly, I missed watching you continue to grow up just like you sister. I know that my giving you gifts won’t earn your trust back any faster, but I have heard that diamonds are a girls best friend, so I saw this the other day and I knew that you should have it,” he said pulling a box from beside him.
JL opened the box, and inside were a diamond pendent necklace and matching earrings.
“Now you can’t show your sister these or then she’ll want a set to. And normally I would get her anything she wants, but these are just for you and nobody else. I’m sorry JL,” Justin said holding out his arms for her.
She came right to him.
“I missed you so much Justin,” she said crying into his shirt.
After she finished crying, they walked out with JL on Justin’s shoulders and the necklace around her neck.
“Well, I see that you won her back too,” Britney said walking up to both of them.
